Overview
A warm editorial sales theme for ebook, book and course launches, with a 3D book mockup, a table of contents, editions, a free-chapter signup and a night-reading dark scheme.
Chapterly is a block theme for authors and creators selling a book, a guide or a cohort course: a sales page, a sample chapter and preorders. It is set on cream paper with ink-dark text, terracotta accents, Newsreader for headlines and long reading and Instrument Sans for labels and buttons.
Built in, with no plugins needed:
- A 3D book mockup: give any Image block the "3D book" style and your cover stands up with a spine, page edges and a soft shadow (CSS only, static when visitors prefer reduced motion).
- Sales sections: a table of contents with chapter numerals and dot leaders, the opening pages with a drop cap, "who it's for / not for" lists, the course week by week, three editions with one-time prices, a money-back guarantee seal, reader quotes as a masonry wall, the author's bio and FAQs.
- Seven heroes: the book with preorder buttons, a free-chapter signup, a cohort countdown, an author-led hero with a portrait and pull quote, a table-of-contents hero, a background-video hero and the latest post from your notebook.
- Forms (Symelo Theme Kit): free-chapter signup, newsletter and a contact form for speaking, rights and bulk orders. Messages are kept under Messages in wp-admin.
- Landing foundation: pricing tables with a monthly/yearly switch, a comparison table, features, integrations, changelog, testimonials, FAQ with structured data, countdown, waitlist and section navigation, all styled in Chapterly's paper look.
- Reading: a "Reading layout (sample chapter)" template with reading progress, a collapsible table of contents, a narrow column with a drop cap and a closing preorder card.
- Light and dark: a hand-tuned "night reading" scheme with a switch in the header; style variations Night reading, Sage, Classic and Ochre.
- Galleries with masonry and carousel styles and a lightbox, lite video embeds, featured video, motion that respects reduced-motion settings.
Chapterly takes no payments. Preorder buttons link to your store: set its address as the sign-up link under Appearance → Product details (it falls back to the editions on the page).
Questions
Where do form messages go?
Every form submission is stored under Messages in wp-admin. The contact form also emails the site admin; change the recipient under Messages → Settings or in the form block's settings. The free-chapter and newsletter forms only store the address (their "Email me new messages" option is off), so you can export them to your mailing tool.
How do I send the free chapter?
Connect your mailing tool to the stored messages, or set the form's "Redirect" to a page with the download link.
How do I use my own cover?
Replace the image in the hero and keep the "3D book" block style. Covers look best at a 2:3 ratio, at least 640 px wide.
Where do the preorder buttons go?
To the sign-up link under Appearance → Product details. Put your store or preorder page there and every preorder button follows.
Can I turn off the animations?
Motion classes can be removed from any block in the editor's Motion panel. Visitors who prefer reduced motion see everything without animation.
How does dark mode work?
The switch in the header remembers each visitor's choice; until they choose, the site follows their system setting. The Night reading style variation opens in the dark scheme.
