Overview
A soft, friendly block theme for parenting and home blogs: mint-milk pages, scalloped edges, family planner tiles, printable checklists and kid-friendly recipe cards.
Nestling is made for parents and family bloggers who write about family meals, home projects, routines and printable checklists. Mint-milk pages, terracotta and sage, butter-yellow buttons, everything rounded, scalloped edges under the header and above the footer, blob-framed photos and little hand-drawn stars, hearts and leaves. Nunito headings, Nunito Sans for reading.
Everything a family blog needs is built in, with no plugins:
- A family planner home: a bento hero with a blob-framed photo and tiles for family meals, home projects and little routines.
- This week's meal plan: the three latest recipes as numbered planner tiles.
- Checklists everywhere: hand-drawn tick boxes, a sticky-note morning routine hero, a printable checklist card and a "Printables" page with print links.
- Recipe cards for little cooks: big step numbers, the servings scaler up front, ingredients to tick off and a print view that prints the card only.
- Series as "Month by month": numbered planner pages, read in order with progress.
- Hello from our house: an author card with a doodled signature, and a welcome hero in a soft morning gradient.
- Save for later: a reading list in the header that remembers posts in the visitor's browser.
- Forms: contact and a weekly "fridge note" sign-up, stored under Messages.
- Light and dark: a "Night light" dark scheme with a switch in the header, and three style variations (Night light, Lavender, Peach), each with its own dark palette.
- Gentle motion (floating doodles, stickers that wobble, cards that lift), all switched off for visitors who prefer reduced motion.
About 40 patterns: heroes, meal and post sections, galleries, forms, calls to action, FAQ, stats, reader notes and full pages (home, printables, about, contact).
Recipes, series, photo stories, subtitles and author profiles use Secure Custom Fields when it is active (the theme offers to install it); without it, the theme still shows what the demo content stored.
Questions
How do I add a recipe to a post?
Install Secure Custom Fields when the theme asks, then open the post's "Post details" box and switch on the Recipe tab. Fill in the ingredients (one per line, quantity first), the steps and, if you like, the nutrition per serving. The recipe card and the "Jump to the recipe" button appear by themselves.
How do I make a printables page?
Create a page and choose the "Printables page" pattern. It lists every post that has a recipe card, each with a print link.
Where do form messages go?
Every form submission is stored under Messages in the dashboard and emailed to the site's admin address. Change the recipient under Messages → Settings, or per form in the form block's settings.
How do I show a video at the top of a post?
Open the post's Featured video panel and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link, or choose a video file. The theme shows a light play button and loads the player only after a click.
Can I turn off the animations?
Visitors who set "reduce motion" in their system see no animations. You can also remove a block's Motion setting in the editor.
How does dark mode work?
The switch in the header changes between the light palette and "Night light" and remembers the choice. Without a choice, the site follows the visitor's system setting. Every style variation has its own dark palette.
