Overview
An editorial-luxe block theme for fashion, beauty and style blogs: blush and espresso, oversized Playfair italics and tall photographs.
Velour is a block theme for fashion, beauty and style bloggers who publish lookbooks, product edits and honest reviews. Blush pages and espresso type, oversized Playfair Display headlines with rouge italic accents that run over tall 3:4 photographs, thin champagne rules, pill buttons and generous white space.
What is built in, with no page builder and no extra plugins required:
- A magazine-cover home: the site title in giant italics over a tall photo, the issue line and the three newest stories as numbered cover lines.
- "Shop the look" product rows (photo, brand, name, note, price and a Shop button marked rel="sponsored"), a swipeable beauty shelf and a review verdict box.
- Disclosures shown as an elegant banner above sponsored, gifted, affiliate and partnership posts.
- Lookbooks: photo stories as carousels or masonry walls with a lightbox, and a "Lookbook" post template that opens with the photographs.
- Series ("The Capsule Wardrobe"), key takeaways ("In short"), a table of contents, reading progress, sharing, a "save for later" reading list and filters for the journal.
- Forms (newsletter, contact and a "Work with me" collaboration form) whose messages are kept under Messages in the dashboard.
- Video: a background video cover, a video and text section and featured videos for posts.
- Light and dark: the "Blush" palette switches to "Noir" with the toggle in the header or the visitor's system setting. Four style variations: Noir, Nude, Lilac and Ivory, each with its own dark palette.
- Gentle motion: slow image zoom, a fabric-name marquee and clip-up image reveals, all off when the visitor prefers reduced motion.
- About 30 patterns (covers, edits, lookbooks, forms, about, pages) and a fashion and beauty demo set under Appearance → Import demo.
Velour uses the free Secure Custom Fields plugin for subtitles, disclosures, photo stories, takeaways, series covers and author profiles; it offers to install it, and works without it.
Questions
Where do form messages go?
Every form submission is kept under Messages in the dashboard and emailed to the site's admin address. Change the recipients under Messages → Settings, or give a single form its own recipients in the block settings.
How do I mark a post as sponsored or affiliate?
Open "Post details" in the post editor, turn on the disclosure and choose its type (sponsored, affiliate, gifted or partnership) and the brand. Velour shows it as a banner above the story. The default texts can be changed under Appearance → Blog settings.
How do I add "Shop the look" to a post or page?
Insert the "Shop the look" pattern (Velour: Edits and posts) and replace the photos, names, prices and links. Its Shop buttons already carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" and open in a new tab.
How do I add a featured video?
Open the "Featured video" panel in the post sidebar and paste a YouTube or Vimeo link or choose a video file. YouTube and Vimeo load only after a click.
Can I turn the animations off?
Animations are classes on blocks (the Motion panel in the editor). Visitors who ask their system for reduced motion never see them.
How does dark mode work?
The toggle in the header switches between the light palette and its dark partner and remembers the choice; until a visitor chooses, Velour follows the system setting. With the Noir style variation the site is dark for everyone and the toggle is hidden.
