Overview

A practical, high-contrast "find a pro" directory for local services and trades, with free quote requests, rates, service areas and workwear-label badges.

Fixfolk is a block theme for directories of plumbers, electricians, cleaners, gardeners, movers, tutors and other local pros, and for town "find a pro" sites. It is practical, high-contrast and friendly: white and yellow, bold Outfit headings over Nunito Sans text, a tape measure under the header and along the hero, riveted toolbox-style panels with a yellow rail, hex-nut step numbers, a screw-head logo and badges that look like sewn workwear labels. "Get a free quote" is never more than one click away.

Built in, no plugins needed:

  • Pros: one listing type with services (categories), areas (locations) and badges (insured, licensed, free quotes, same-day, eco materials), service areas, rates, working hours with an "Available now" status, photo galleries, maps that load only on a click, and structured data. Lists are sorted by rating by default.
  • Search and filters: service, area, keyword, available now, badges and the order, on the pros page and on service and area pages.
  • Pro pages: service area and phone up front, a sticky "Free quotes" card with call, website and directions buttons, badges, a rates table, "Where they work", and a "Request a quote" form (when, where the job is, what needs doing).
  • Five heroes ("What needs doing?" search with service chips, pros you can trust with a rating and three steps, available today, a workshop video, service tiles), how it works in four steps, badges explained, an emergency call-out, reviews and counters, about 30 patterns and full pages.
  • Forms: quote requests, contact and "List your business", stored under Messages (and emailed if you want).
  • Light and dark schemes with a toggle, and three style variations: Night crew, Blueprint and Green trades.
  • Demo content: Appearance → Import demo creates the directory demo, its pages and a menu.

Questions

Where do quote requests go?

They are stored under Messages in the dashboard. To also receive them by email, open Messages → Settings and add the recipients. A pro can also get its own copy: fill in "Inquiry email" on the pro.

Can the theme show only pros available in the evening or at the weekend?

Yes: Query Loops accept a setting the theme adds ("fixfolk":{"weekend":true} or {"evening":true} in the query), worked out from each pro's working hours.

Does the theme need Secure Custom Fields?

The fields (hours, rates, badges, galleries) are edited with the free Secure Custom Fields plugin, which the theme offers to install. Listings already show without it.

How do I turn off animations or the dark scheme?

Animations follow the visitor's "reduce motion" setting. The color scheme toggle in the header switches between light and dark and remembers the choice; remove the toggle block from the header to keep one scheme.
