Overview

A moody, late-night restaurant and food guide theme: menus as printed menu cards, kitchen hours, "open tonight" lists, cuisine pages, dietary filters and reservation requests.

Morsel is a block theme for city food guides, food bloggers turned guides, tourism boards and restaurant associations. It is dark by default (a warm near-black ground, cream type, saffron and tomato accents) with a Daylight scheme one click away, and it borrows its typography from printed menus: Gloock headings, small caps labels, prices in tabular figures on dotted leaders and thin double rules.

Built in, with no plugins:

  • Restaurants and food events with typed details: cuisine, neighbourhood, features, price range, rating, address and map (loaded only after a click), contact and booking links, galleries, menus and kitchen hours with a live "open now" status.
  • Search and filters: cuisine, neighbourhood, open now, price, features (vegan, gluten-free, halal…) and sort orders, with a Dietary chip row.
  • A designed single restaurant: centred menu-style header, photo mosaic with lightbox, the menu as a two-column printed menu card, a framed sticky card with kitchen hours, and a "Reserve" form styled as a ticket stub.
  • Cuisine and neighbourhood pages with a full-bleed photo and the cuisine's icon.
  • About 30 patterns: five heroes (dish photo with a menu card search, tonight's table, chalkboard specials marquee, kitchen video with a pause button, cuisine icon wall), sections, galleries (masonry and carousel), forms (contact, newsletter, table request), FAQ, stats, testimonials, footers and full pages.
  • Forms with a Messages screen, motion classes, galleries and lightbox, featured video, light and dark schemes (the Symelo Theme Kit).
  • Four style variations: Daylight, Bistro, Trattoria and Neon diner.

The restaurant details are edited with the free Secure Custom Fields plugin; the theme offers to install it. Listings already show before it is installed.

Questions

Where do form messages go?

Contact, newsletter and reservation forms are stored under Messages in the dashboard and emailed to the site's admin address. Change the recipient under Messages → Settings, or per form in the block's settings. Reservation requests on a restaurant page are also emailed to the restaurant's inquiry email when one is set.

How do I add a restaurant?

Go to Restaurants → Add New. Set the cuisine, neighbourhood and features in the sidebar, and fill the details (hours, menu, prices, contact, photos) in the Restaurant details box. Appearance → Import demo installs ten restaurants and two food events to start from.

How does "open now" work?

It follows the kitchen hours of each restaurant in your site's time zone, and updates in the visitor's browser every minute, so cached pages stay right.

Can I use a light design?

Yes. Visitors can switch with the sun and moon button in the header, and Appearance → Editor → Styles offers the Daylight, Bistro and Trattoria variations.

Can I turn animations off?

Visitors who prefer reduced motion see no animations and the background video starts paused; everyone else can pause it with the button in its corner.
